Annie Lou Hits the Road

On the Road with Annie Lou

THE NEW ALBUM
is on its way, and we're now on tour!

Hooray! Have a listen to the recently uploaded tracks to hear what we have been up to. We were so delighted to have SAMMY LIND from the FOGHORN STRINGBAND play on several tracks, and do some rousing twin fiddle numbers with Keitha Clark. We recorded at Old Crow Recording in Whitehorse, with production by BOB HAMILTON.

Thanks to the generous support of the Canada Council, FACTOR, and the Yukon Film and Sound Commission.
We're really excited about the record and can't wait to share it with you. Stay tuned for for further updates!

Huge thanks to Keitha Clark, an original member of Annie Lou, for all her work with the band and on the album. Keitha has decided to pursue other musical opportunities. We are delighted that Hannah Goa will be fiddling with us on our upcoming tour.

Kim Beggs Wins International Songwriting Award

ISC

15,500 Entries.
60 Winners.
20 Categories.
One Yukoner.

Priceless.

MusicYukon is thrilled to congratulate our own Kim Beggs for her stellar achievement in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition. Not only a finalist, her song "Lips Stained Red With Wine" has taken 3rd Place in the Americana category.

While ISC doesn't release the 'hard numbers' in each category, even a just-passing math student could tell you that coming third out of an estimated 775 category applicants (15,500 applicants divided by 20 categories) is a singular achievement.

With 6.77 billion souls in the world, and where the Yukon represents just .00000443% of its population, placing as a finalist is a long shot. Winning an award is just icing on the cake.

Congratulations, Kim -- not just for the very very fine songwriting, but the hours and days and months of all the hard slogging you do.  This is a MasterCard Moment.

KIM BEGGS NAMED AS INTERNATIONAL FINALIST

The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) announced its finalists Friday, with Kim Begg's song "Lips Stained Red With Wine"  in Americana selected as a finalist.

Being selected an ISC finalist is an accomplishment that acknowledges true songwriting talent. With only 287 finalists chosen out of over 15,500 entrants, this is an extraordinary achievement, and we are very pleased to offer our congratulations.

Finalists are posted on the ISC website at http://www.songwritingcompetition.com/winners.htm

All finalists' songs have been sent to the panel of judges, and ISC will announce the winners in April as soon as the judges have made their decision.

All finalists' songs and music videos (except for Lyrics Only songs which do not require recorded music as part of the entry) are included in the People's Voice - an online voting contest that allows the public to listen to all the finalists' songs and vote for their favorite one. People's Voice is separate from, and in addition to, the winners selected by ISC's panel of judges.

The winner of People's Voice will receive $1,500 in prizes and bragging rights! Be sure to tell all your friends, family, and fans, so that they can vote! Voting will take place from now until March 31, 2009.

You can start voting now at http://www.songwritingcompetition.com/PVWelcome2008.htm

SHOWCASE YUKON 2009 post-mortem

YFSC clr.jpg

All now being said and done, it's fair to say we just pulled off an exciting first for the Yukon.

Twelve acts ended up with great exposure to some of North America and Europe's top buyers over two days of showcasing and then personal meetings.

Sounds like there are definitely some positive outcomes, and gigging is just a part of that.

This could not have happened without the support of the Yukon Film & Sound Commission nor without the production support of Magnum Opus Mgmt.
